The original Native 5 was an evolution of refinements in knifemaking with a bold G-10 handle and nitrogen-hardened CPM-S35VN blade. The Native 5 Lightweight is the same knife but with FRN handles. The blade is PlainEdged and flat ground with a weight reducing spine-swedge grind. CPM-S35VN is similarly structured to Crucible's CPM-S30V but with the addition of niobium (columbium) carbides along with vanadium and chromium carbides. Niobium makes the steel tougher while enhancing resistance to wear and chipping and improves edge retention over basic smelted high-chromium steels. The Native 5’s back-lock embodies the steps of evolution in traditional back-locks. Back-locks were first introduced to the knife industry decades ago, transforming into more sophisticated, safer locks through improved manufacturing techniques. Today’s American made back-locks offer improved self-close, smooth action, solid lock-up and ease in push-release opening for a higher caliber of knife buyer in today’s market. Implementation of a new Bushing Pivot System on the Native 5 generates fluid action and consistent manufacturing tolerances. A four-way transport-friendly hourglass pocket clip adjusts to carry tip-up/tip-down and left or right-handed with a lanyard hole incorporated through the center of the clip where it attaches to the handle. The folder is fabricated with screw-together construction using larger sized torq screws, easier to adjust and tighten. The Native 5 represents the maturation of American knifemaking capabilities in making everything sharper, smoother and guaranteed to provide performance and overall user comfort.
